Grand Performances: Voices in Harmony, featuring the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles

Voices in Harmony will showcase school and community choirs from throughout SoCal, culminating in a performance by the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles. Audiences will have the chance to participate in some sing-along elements of the performances and comprehend about Grand Performances’ 38–year legacy in Downtown LA via televisions displaying footage from past concerts.

It was a hot July evening in 1979.  A small group of men opened their doors - waiting and wondering if anybody would present up. To their great surprise, 99 men appeared and a chorus was born.

The History and Mission of West Coast Singers

Founded in 1983, the West Coast Singers is the third oldest Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Straight Ally, mixed chorus in the nation. In that more hard time, the original intent was to provide a protected place for Gay men and Lesbians to come together and sing. Now, in our 35th year, our membership and musicianship possess both grown. With more than 80 active singers, we believe that the West Coast Singers is one of the premier LGBTQ choruses in the world, offering the rich, full-bodied sound that can only come from a mixed chorus of voices.
