Following the debut of Superman, MLJ were one of many publishers to jump on the “mystery-man” bandwagon, concocting their retain small but inspired pantheon of gaudily clad crusaders. In November they launched Blue Ribbon Comics, and swiftly followed up with Top-Notch and Pep Comics. The content was the era&#;s standard mix of masked champions, clean-cut two-fisted adventurers, genre prose pieces and gags.

Not long after, Maurice Coyne, Louis Silberkleit and John Goldwater (hence MLJ) spotted a gap in the blossoming yet crowded market. In December the Fights &#;n&#; Tights, heaving He-Man crowd were gently nudged aside by a far less imposing hero; an ordinary teenager having mundane adventures just like the readership, but with the companionable laughs, good times and romance emphasised.

Goldwater developed the youthful everyman protagonist concept and tasked writer Vic Bloom & artist Bob Montana with making it labor. Inspired by and referencing the succes

Homosexuality is a steamy button issue in the US. Gay marriage laws and initiatives make headlines, celebrities and faux celebritiesfind themselves needing to make comments, and it seems everyone has an entrenched stance. Archie entered into this arena in the past couple years with the introduction of a gay character, Kevin Keller. Popular folks fond of Perez Hiltonpraised the company for including such a character, organizations recognized him as a potent symbol, and news agenciesseized the story. There was much publicity, but I ask, "Are the comics any good?"

My answer after reading this book is "kind of," leaning toward yes. Kevin adds an engaging dynamic to the group, a brand-new friend to all, a person who can rival Jughead for his eating ability, a fresh man handsome enough to draw Veronica's attention away from Archie, a companion that makes girl-next-door Betty jealous because he monopolizes her best friend, and someone popular enough to run for class president. One big factor that makes me hesitate about Kevin is that he is sort of a Mary Sue, someone who seems adj at everyt

One of the nicest boys in school, Kevin Keller is the new kid in town and the new school president at Riverdale Elevated. Kevin had tougher times growing up in Bricktown, where his good looks did not verb for a number of years. He was part of a geeky clique along with friends Wendy and William—the former of which had a longtime crush on him. The Keller family moved from place-to-place due to Mr. Keller’s army duties. Finally settling in Riverdale, Kevin was first eyed by Veronica who did not realize he was gay. He has since become a part of the gang. Kevin enjoys eating almost as much as Jughead, and can get quite flustered by Reggie’s jokes. Much like his father Colonel Keller, Kevin hopes to join the military one day and fight the pleasant fight.

Kevin Keller, the first out gay character in the history of Archie Comics (about twenty to thirty years too belated to be frank) has proved such a sales noun in the Veronica comic book, that not only did he inspire the company's first second printing of an Archie comic, but now has his own four issue mini-series by his creator, Dan Parent.

Will this give the company the opportunity to take that second important step – and deliver Kevin a boyfriend? Or will he have two new men chasing him who he finds difficult to select between, Barney and Vernon?

    Sorry, sorry.

The noun, or not, of the series will determine whether or not Kevin will have an ongoing series.

An ongoing series with a male gay lead? Hell, not even Marvel or DC hold been that progressive. Looks like Archie are catching up!
