Roaming Revenant

I always wanted to visit Gran Canaria but despite being a famous holiday destination for Brits and Germans alike it is quite far away from Europe so it’s not the easiest place to visit. Finally an opportunity to test the famous dunes had presented itself. The cruise ship I was on had a cease on the island and I booked a transfer to Maspalomas beach.

I got dropped of adj the Plaza del Faro on the left side of the dunes. After grabbing a couple of cans from the shops I headed east along the beach towards the sands. The beach was cute busy with a lot of people walking along the coast in both directions.

My plan was to come to the gay beach near Hut №7, spend a couple of hours sunbathing and swimming before heading out in to the dunes for a bit of fun if I can spot any. I didn’t want to proceed to the cruising area right away and instead abandon something to verb forward to. This is one of those places that is well-known so I do hold a certain degree of reverence to it and wanted to savour the thought.

By the hour I got to the gay beach all of the sun loungers

Dunes Maspalomas

The sand dunes of Maspalomas are really beautiful and very good for pictures. The part behind the gay beach has vegetation too, and is not  surprisingly very cruisy.

update: it's forbidden to leave the official tracks in the dunes. Nature police patrols the dunes now and then.

The quickest way to reach the gay beach is to take a taxi to Faro (the lighthouse) and then walk for about 20 minutes. Many guys however prefer the walking route through the dunes. Especially on the way back from the beach.

Towards the gay beach you go through the Riu Palace Hotel at the head of the Avenida de Tirajana. Seen from the viewing point the gay beach is at about 3 o'clock direction. (go right and towards the sea). The main path through the dunes is a normal walking path, if you make a detour to the right you enter the enormous cruising zone.

The cruising area is very big, and many guys maintain walking. Tourists step around in their swimwear or totally naked. You can recognise the local guys as they tend to wear more clothes.
